Nintendo Wii Pre-Orders

If you want one of the hottest consoles of the year but don't want to be forced to pay double or even triple the cost on Ebay due to shortages, I suggest you pre-order your Nintendo Wii TODAY.

GameStop and its affiliate EB Games are taking pre-orders for the Nintendo Wii Friday Oct 13 only. The reserve of $50 gets you in the door when the Wii is expected for release on November 19 of this year.

Oh by the way...if you are serious about doing this than you better be there at least an hour early before the store opens because the pre-orders for the PS3 sold out in mere minutes of the stores' opening.

If you're thinking of buying a Toyota Hybrid...you better hurry

From Linda Stern for Newsweek:

Some models like the poplular Prius are losing their tax credits. According to IRS rules, once a manufacturer sells 60,000 hybrids, the credit on ALL of that company's models gets phased out over a 15 month period.

On October 1, credits were chopped in half for all Toyota and Lexus models. Next April they get chopped in half again (to $787 for the Prius) and disappear altogether on Oct 1, 2007.

This applies only to Toyota and Lexus since their hybrids have been outstanding sellers. Other brands such as Honda, etc aren't even close to hitting their 60,000 marks.

Stop Cellphone carriers from charging monthly fees

A friend of ours asked why she keeps getting charged $2.99 a month for a game downloaded to her cellphone months ago, even though she only played it a couple of times. She asked how does she get her carrier to stop charging her.

Most people don't realized that they are being tricked into a recurring monthly subsciption fee by downloading content such as games, applications or ringtones. That's because most carriers have adopted a subscription model for such content...great for them...bad for you.

They're counting on users to forget to remove the files after they're done using them. In essence, they keep plucking cash from your wallet long after you've forgotten about that stupid game you played for only a few minutes.

The monthly fees can get get expensive if you've downloaded more than a few apps or ringtones that you don't use anymore...adding $5, $15, $25 or more per month to your wireless bill (that could mean $300 or more per year in useless charges!)

What to do? Most carriers make it as difficult as possible to get rid of these stupid apps. Rarely, you can just call the carrier and ask them to remove the app...but again that is rare. Leaving the legwork upto you.

If you're carrier won't remove the offending app for you, try the following (this process is generic but should work with most carriers).
1) Goto the settings options where your downloads are kept
2) Somewhere in there, you'll find an option that either removes the application or cancels the subscription (either option will usually put a stop to the charges).
3) For step by step instructions, call your carrier's customer service.

TIP FOR PARENTS: Check your kids' phones monthly for downloaded apps and weed them out.

So go ahead and save a small fortune by deleting that outdated file of Alien Zapper from the deep.
