Beating a Speeding Ticket
Did you know that the average cost of a moving violation ticket after the insurance rate hike is about $830? Yikes! (You can close your mouth now). Yeah, my jaw dropped too.
Anyways, a few months ago I was issued a moving violation for an alledged "not following posted sign" to merge with traffic. It was totally bogus (yeah I know everyone says that) but in this case it was because the officer decided to simply pull me over while his police trainee was "learning" how to write a ticket...this actually happened!
Anyways, I knew I couldn't be in the wrong because the sign was old and my strip of freeway onramp was widened so that now my lane automatically merges with traffic. Needles to say, I was pissed for being issued a totally bogus ticket for the sake of "training". Luckily, I had my camera phone and took a small video the second I was pulled over consisting of the lane where my car was and the so-called officer's comments of "learning" how to write a ticket to his trainee.
Well, I had my day in court, and yes the officer showed and yes I fought the law and the law lost because of the video. The judge acknowledged that the stop was not only unneccesssary but in the judges words, "bordering illegal" and reprimanded the officer in front of the whole court. My ticket was thrown out (insert applause and tears of joy here).
Well, that was my personal story but I came accross an interesting article that speaks in plain English on how to beat the average ticket. Remember, a few minutes of your time could save you hundreds of dollars in car insurance rate hikes.
